In the mood of Sarah kay

Forse non tutte conosco la famosissima illustratrice Sarah Kay, ma io me ne sono innamorata fin da piccolissima, quando la mia mamma mi regalò un libro intitolato “Il primo amore”, illustrato completamente da lei.

Perhaps not everyone knows the very famous illustrator Sarah Kay, but I fell in love with her since I was a child, when my mom gave me a book called “Il primo amore”, completely illustrated by her.

Per chi non la conoscesse Sarah Kay è lo pseudonimo (nonché il marchio) creato negli anni ’70 da Vivien Kubos, illustratrice e autrice di libri per bambini australiana, che ancora oggi si esprime attraverso la pittura nel quartiere di Greenwich, affacciato sul porto di Sydney. L’immaginario di Sarah Kay si basa su una serie di personaggi immersi in un universo romantico e colorato che ruota attorno ai valori dell’ amicizia, dell’amore e della fratellanza. Intorno ai vent’anni venne contattata da un’agenzia pubblicitaria, per lavorare come designer e illustratrice freelance. Poi, dopo il matrimonio e la nascita dei suoi bambini, iniziò a creare disegni per l’infanzia ambientati nella fattoria dei propri nonni: nacque così il mondo di Sarah Kay. Le sue illustrazioni rappresentano un mondo armonioso fatto di bambini con volti angelici, piccoli animali e piante fiorite. Gli abiti dei personaggi sono  bucolici: sono sempre arricchit da ruches, cappelli di paglia e stoffa, bambole di pezza. E si caratterizzano per le tipologie di fantasie dei tessuti in microfantasie, pois, fiorellini, checks.

For those who do not know her, Sarah Kay is the pseudonym (as well as the brand) created in the 70s by Vivien Kubos, Australian illustrator and author of children’s books, which still today is expressed through painting in the Greenwich district, overlooking the port of Sydney. Sarah Kay’s imagery is based on a series of characters immersed in a romantic and colorful universe that revolves around the values ​​of friendship, love and brotherhood. Around the age of twenty she was contacted by an advertising agency, to work as a freelance designer and illustrator. Then, after the marriage and the birth of her children, she began to create children’s drawings set on her grandparents’ farm: this is how Sarah Kay’s world was born. His illustrations represent a harmonious world made up of children with angelic faces, small animals and flowering plants. The characters’ clothes are bucolic: they are always enriched with ruffles, straw and cloth hats, rag dolls. And they are characterized by the types of patterns of fabrics in micro-patterns, polka dots, small flowers, checks.

Sono semplicemente graziosissimi, non trovate? Così mi sono ispirata a lei per creare dei capi che riprendessero le stampe e le linee dei vestitini delle bimbe ritratte da Sarah!

They are simply pretty, can’t you find? So I was inspired by her to create garments that would reproduce the prints and lines of the little girls’ clothes portrayed by Sarah!
