Il pizzo di Cantù

Oggi voglio parlarvi di un’eccellenza del mio territorio, per fortuna ancora tramandata di generazione in generazione grazie alle nonne, a piccole scuole o associazioni che promuovo l’artigianato locale. Il famosissimo “pizzo di Cantù“. E’ un merletto la cui origine risale tra le fine del 1300 e il 1400 ed è fatto a mano utilizzando un cuscino detto “tombolo” e intrecciando dei fili di cotone su un disegno chiamata cartina. Un lavoro che richiede tantissima pazienza, manualità e soprattutto esperienza!! Il tombolo è uno strumento che può avere diverse forme, (in Brianza è cilindrico) su cui si fissa, appuntandolo con degli spilli, un disegno su carta, e sopra il quale si intrecciano, successivamente, i fili di cotone attraverso dei bastoncini detti fuselli. Il tombolo viene appoggiato su un cavalletto e, grazie a una asticella di legno, resta inclinato. In dialetto canturino il pizzo è detto “ul pizz”, i fuselli “i oss”, il tombolo “ul cusin”, il cavalletto “ul pundin” e l’asticella “la taparela”.

Today I want to talk to you about the excellence of my territory, fortunately still handed down from generation to generation thanks to grandmothers, small schools or associations that promote local craftsmanship. The very famous “Cantù lace“. It is a lace whose origin dates back to the end of the 1300s and 1400s and is handmade using a pillow known as a “tombolo” and intertwining cotton threads on a pattern called a map. A job that requires a lot of patience, manual skill and above all experience !! The tombolo is an instrument that can have different shapes, (in Brianza it is cylindrical) on which a drawing on paper is fixed, pinning it with pins, and above which the cotton threads are intertwined, then, by means of sticks called fuselli . The tombolo is placed on a trestle and, thanks to a wooden bar, it remains tilted. In the Canturino dialect the lace is called “ul pizz“, the bobbins “i oss“, the tombolo “ul cusin“, the easel “ul pundin” and the bar “la taparela“.

 

Per ottenere il merletto occorre usare un cartoncino (detto “la cartina”), sul quale la disegnatrice disegna la traccia, poi il lavoro passa alla spuntatrice, che esegue dei fori sul cartoncino e lo spunta lungo le linee del tracciato fissandolo al tombolo con degli spilli (“i gügitt”).  Le donne canturine addestrate dalle suore sapevano anche ricoprire tutti e tre i ruoli di disegnatrice, spuntatrice e merlettaia. Quest’ultima è colei che esegue la lavorazione vera e propria, al termine della quale il pizzo ottenuto viene staccato dai punti di supporto e usato per la finalità per cui è stato creato.

To obtain lace, use a cardboard (called “la cartina“), on which the designer draws the trace, then the work passes to the ticker, which makes holes on the cardboard and check it along the lines of the path, fixing it to the pillow with some pins (“i gügitt“). The Cantù women trained by the nuns also knew how to cover all three roles of draftsman, lacemaker and lace maker. The latter is the one who performs the actual processing, at the end of which the lace obtained is detached from the support points and used for the purpose for which it was created.

Con la lavorazione del pizzo si possono realizzare tantissime opere d’arte, dai più piccoli centri ad intere tovaglie, fino alla speciale e preziosissima creazione di abiti semplicemente spettacolari!

With the processing of lace you can create many works of art, from the smallest centers to entire tablecloths, up to the special and precious creation of simply spectacular dresses!

Per questo ho disegnato questo bellissimo abito da sposa realizzato interamente con pizzo al tombolo di Cantù! Che chissà, magari potrei indossare quando troverò il mio principe azzurro!!!
