Jacqueline Lee Bouvier nacque in una famiglia dell’alta società newyorkese, primogenita di John “Jack” Vernou Bouvier III , un broker di borsa di origine francese, e di Janet Norton Lee, figlia di un direttore di banca. Frequentò la Miss Porter’s School dal 1944 al 1947, poi il Vassar College dal 1947 al 1948 e infine frequentò la George Washington University, dove ottenne la laurea in belle arti nel 1951. Come primo lavoro, il The Washington Times le affidò una serie di inchieste fotografiche da realizzare intervistando personaggi noti nella capitale statunitense. Grazie a questo incarico divenne conosciuta negli ambienti politici di Washington, ed ebbe modo di incontrare il suo futuro marito John Fitzgerald Kennedy, allora giovane congressista del Massachusetts. Il 12 settembre 1953 Jacqueline sposò Kennedy, quando era senatore e astro nascente del Partito Democratico. La cerimonia si svolse a Newport, Rhode Island, celebrata dall’arcivescovo di Boston Richard James Cushing e seguita da un sontuoso ricevimento per 2000 invitati.

Jacqueline Lee Bouvier was born into a family of New York high society, the eldest daughter of John “Jack” Vernou Bouvier III, a stock broker of French origin, and Janet Norton Lee, daughter of a bank manager. He attended Miss Porter’s School from 1944 to 1947, then Vassar College from 1947 to 1948 and finally attended George Washington University, where he obtained a degree in fine arts in 1951. As a first job, The Washington Times gave her a series of surveys photographic to realize by interviewing famous people in the US capital. Thanks to this assignment, she became known in political circles in Washington, and was able to meet her future husband John Fitzgerald Kennedy, then a young Massachusetts congresswoman. On 12 September 1953 Jacqueline married Kennedy, when she was a senator and rising star of the Democratic Party. The ceremony took place in Newport, Rhode Island, celebrated by the Archbishop of Boston Richard James Cushing and followed by a sumptuous reception for 2000 guests.

Perchè lei è stata sempre avanti anni luce rispetto ai suoi tempi, fregandosene delle etichette e dei dettami dei suoi anni. Lei era una rivoluzionaria, che andava a piedi nudi quando le infradito erano considerate “troppo”, che mostrava le gambe nonostante fossero molto magre e poco femminili, del tutto fiera della sua magrezza quando ancora le forme generose delle donne anni’50 esplodevano al cinema.
